Retrospection

Well well well, so my first year in college is over. A little hard to believe, coz I still feel new to college. But at the same time, I feel extremely attached to it, which, honestly speaking, I never thought would happen...

This one year has been one hell of a year, in more ways than one.

The first, and most obvious one, the transition from school to college. The first couple of months were pretty hard, to tell you the truth. I’d been in the same school for thirteen years, so it was practically like my second home, a place where I knew everyone and everyone knew me. And then came college, where nobody knew me and nobody cared, where I had to make a conscious effort to talk to people, to make friends. I was SO not used to that.

Missed school like hell in the beginning, disliked college like hell, would rush home as soon as classes ended, started valuing home like never before. :-p

But then, I gradually started enjoying college, started looking forward to coming to college, started wanting to stick around longer.

And then, one fine day, I realized that I had actually started loving college. I loved the dull red bricks of the building, the Xerox lawns, where a lot of my time was spent, even though I wasn’t part of dramsoc, Irfan’s, whose banta was to die for, the awfully dingy excuse for a canteen, the dayski point, and of course, the beautiful frontlawns, where most of my first year was spent, where so many vital issues were discussed, like UCB’s gorgeous winter collection, our love-lives, Jha’s havoc-wreaking tests, bad-hair days, where mine and Anisha’s Campus Improvement Programme (read - an excuse for bitching) materialized, where I grew to love SRCC.

Now if I look back, the thought that I actually used to hate college at one point of time is almost absurd. Funny how things change………..

Also, funny how priorities change. What seemed liked the most important thing a year back seems pretty insignificant now. Of course, using the same logic, what seems really important right now will cease to matter a year later I guess.

Incidentally, I’ve learnt a couple of things, albeit the hard way (which is how most learning experiences go I think. :-p). Actually on second thoughts, I’m going to leave that for another entry, coz this is getting a little too pensive as it is.

So until next time, goodbye, and thanks for all the fish.

even i had been in da the same school for 13 yrs, but in the last 2 yrs of my school lyf my school visits started becoming rarer and rarer still.. i used to enjoy the days when i used to go to school but coz of coaching etc couldnt make it anywhere near regular to the school.. after school got over, i was too excited to go my new haven.. i found friends, i mean really good friends, really quick.. the ragging period was fun and so was the transition from being restricted to the school boundaries to the fun and open environ of the coll..
w8in for ur next one. TA

It has been quite the same here. I was going to put up a similar post. Hope to do this in the vacations now.

You can't be talking like this, you've just completed first year. Spare a thought for those who also spent 13 years in one school, hated college for the first few months, then grew to like it - the same front lawns, the same canteen & Raju, the same Xerox lawns and yes, the same red brick walls - and have now completed their 3 years in SRCC. Sigh.

Never mind, this post is about you and not me. :D

And of course, Jha's havoc-wreaking tests.
"Class test, 1st term: result - fail
Class test, 2nd term: result - fail
Home exams: result - fail
Class test, 3rd term: result - fail"

:P

@ neo - yes, isn't it???

@ bored blogger - yes, me too11 when will they end???? haha funny, we were dying for the hols to begin and now we can't wait for them to end.

@ ady - you were real lucky to have been able to adjust so quickly. most people find it real hard to make that transaction from school to college.

@ aditya - looking forward to that post of yours.

@ richa - oh, three years, seems like such a long time, but since the first year went by so quickly, the end of thirst years doesn't seem so far away any longer. *sigh*
btw, wanna know something interesting? i actually aced jha's first test! but the less said about the subsequent tests the better. :-p

@ nefty - yeah, i'm doin it. ;-)

@ arunima - yes missing north campus like hell!!! and well, i was majorly excited about college too but didnt enjoy the first couple of months one bit.

@ sid - oh Rajiv Jha warrants an entire entry. maybe i'll do it one of these days. :-p

ARE YOU SERIOUS???
You don't seem to be one of those nerds that Jha admires. :O
Although quite a few of them are good friends of mine. :D

And yeah, do write about him. You keep mentioning him every now and then anyway. It's fun writing/talking/reading about him. Loved writing in Candid too, which btw, quite surely, reached him too. :P

Oh, and there no offence meant. Just that there are very few people who ace his tests, and that too the first one. Therefore the reaction. :D

College means different things to different people.
I frankly admit I didn't quite relate to it, but yes, I did get to know how an 'average SRite' (don't mistake the term) feels like in college.

Waiting for the next post!!

@ richa - of course, i'm not a nerd! that was a one-off thing. :-p
and yeah, might just write about him. and darn, never got to read that stuff in candid. maybe it was before this year.

@ diya - thank you, i'm titally looking forward to the next couple of years. :-)

@ anunay - yeah? in what way?

@ ayush - thanks!

@ utsav - so you don't consider yourself to be average eh? lol. and yeah, next post coming up real soon!
